Storm and Sick

Yesterday the perfect storm hit my house. The poor little one woke up with a wicked cough. It sounded like whooping cough. The decision was made to get her to the doctor. Turns out he says she's just getting over a virus we didn't know she had and she's cleared to go to school- even though she sounds really bad and we will likely keep her home again today because she just doesn't look healthy enough.

That meant we needed to align the stars to play tag. Hubby goes in late (way late) and I go home early. We successfully made the hand-off just as the alert came over email that after school activities were cancelled. Both of the other Kenney kids would get home early and we would hunker down for the night.

Can I say I was actually a little relieved? We are like the Energizer family- we keep going and going and going. When the weather turns bad and events are cancelled- I think we all secretly enjoy it. My kids will complain they have places to go- but I also see them relax and focus a little better on their homework because they aren't rushed. Then when it's time to cuddle up and watch some tv- they do it  without the usual fighting over the remote because they can spend more time in front of the tube.

Even with a sick kiddo, homework and cooking dinner- last night was peaceful. This time of year I find myself going inward- not feeling like I have much to say. The cold will do that to yah. But the words easily flowed telling you this because I was able to take a nice breath in and exhale and just relax. It's fun to be on the go and see our friends all the time- but it's also wonderful just to hunker down and enjoy watching the snow from inside a warm house.
