Flying

This is me thinking that I am completely hiding the fact that I'm terrified to fly. My son took this picture of me and I had no clue he could tell I was stressed. I thought I was the best actress and that he couldn't tell. Clearly I failed.
My 10-year-old told me to "Calm down, Mom. It's fine." I asked him "What do you mean? I'm having a great time. I'm just tired, resting my head." He turned back to the window. Seconds later he snapped this picture of me, put my camera down and left it for me to find. When I found it a few hours later I was surprised. You can't even see my face and yet- you can TOTALLY tell I'm stressed.

This was Saturday on our way back from a Florida Vacation.... just hours before the Asiana Airlines plane crash in San Fransisco. I was just praying to the good god above to get me on the ground safe. He did. But then when I saw there was a crash I just couldn't believe it. It did nothing to help me in my fear of flight.

I know, I know- it's safer than driving. It's the safest mode of transportation- blah blah blah! I do know the statistics and logically I get it- but a fear is a fear- and this is mine. I've taken many steps to get over it too. Fly a lot, not fly at all, hypnosis, meditation, drink (and I hardly ever drink), prescription meds. They all do nothing to alleviate the stress I experience when flying.

Someone suggested I learn how to fly and then I would realize how safe it is. I'm not sure about that one. Until then I read articles on how to survive a plane crash and travel only when necessary. I truly wish I could get rid of the fear. There is a whole world I would love to see. Do you have a fear? What is it and how do you deal with it?
