She appeared to be sad and apologetic that the situation came to light but never came right out and said "I'm sorry". Many people took that as a sign that she was more concerned with her empire and how she felt than the fact that she may have offended people.
I had quite the response when I asked people what they thought on Facebook.
Some people said her brand was permanently damaged and that she did nothing to save it. Others said it will blow over and she will be forgiven. Another set of people likened the word to other offensive terms such as the "C" word. Another one of my friends, who by the way is black, raised an interesting point:
There is no need for her to be forgiven, I can't understand how one can be asked a question and respond with an honest answer. The food network does like Donald Trump .."Your Fired"...:Some black folks are such Hypocrites its sicking "sic".....In 2013 we have every rapper that uses word Nigger/Nigga and gets paid millions of dollars all in the name of freedom of speech and expression, such nonsense!
Black folks can support foolishness like Lil Wayne, and all of the other rappers and Tv shows that degrade and disrespect black people and women. Do I agree with her statement "Having a party and want the blacks to dress like waiters during slavery" of course not but this is part of our history here in America!
Black folks need to worry about how we can get our boys to stop sagging their pants, shooting each other with gang violence(Chicago, Detroit, Miami).. And for the most part, nobody really knows or cares about "Paula Deen" in the Black Community...Like my friend said "Ain't nobody got time for That"....thanks for letting me share!
Only time will tell what the true damage is to Deen, her empire and our nation as a whole when it comes to race relations. One things for sure- there's no quick fix.
If you missed her interview here it is again:
