Behind the Podcast: Episode 8 Kate Welshofer

You know Kate from watching Spectrum News in the evening, from her YouTube adventures and even her FAMOUS cat... Brian Williams. Well, now you get to learn about her motivations and what drives her success. I spent the afternoon with Kate at her home along side Brian Williams and a 5 foot tall tin giraffe. Our conversation was funny, inspirational, and thought provoking.

Despite Brian's desire to be the star, he took a back seat on this day as I learned how Kate's life is connected by the randomness of permission NOT to go to college, a mall job and a sea serpent!

And spoiler alert... you're going to be left on a big cliffhanger this week!

Podcast Episode 2: Lynda Caccamo

Meet Capital Region Interior Designer Lynda Caccamo. Lynda and I met in a small dark room where Latin music filled the air and sweaty men and women smiled intently at each other as they swayed to the music. No, I'm not talking about some seedy bar... I'm talking at a ballroom dance party! Lynda is an accomplished dancer... Tango is her favorite. I didn't know then that she was also a very talented designer.

Lynda and I have kept contact through the magic of Facebook and when I saw her posting about interior design I clicked on the link to her blog "City House Interiors".

It's filled with a lot of pretty pictures and easy to read details about design. I admit- I did what I hate people doing to me-- I lurked around at all her pictures, but didn't comment. That was until I just couldn't be silent anymore. Her ideas were beautiful.

Listen to this podcast and learn how the below picture factors into how our interview came to be.

Listen to the podcast to find out how HGTV and do-it-yourself has affected the design business, some of the misconceptions of design and how you can successfully design yourself.

This was a fun conversation. I hope you love it and it leads to your designing success!

Who My Podcast Launch Will Benefit

Madeline Musto
This beautiful girl is Madeline Musto. Madeline was a vibrant little 5-year-old girl who was taken from us way too soon by an inoperable brain stem tumor. Maddie was known for her compassion and love and ability to make all friends get along. Listening to her mom talk about her sweet child warms my heart. I never met Maddie but her mother and I would come together last year like it was meant to be. I knew then- that I wanted to find a way to help her charity.

Maddie's Mark provides "Best Day Evers" to seriously ill children. Madeline's family experienced such compassion in the short time they had before she passed that they knew they wanted to give back in the same way they received.

The beautiful thing about my podcast launch party is that Glennpeter Jewelers is so generously hosting my event with the only request that all the drink proceeds and silent auction proceeds go to a charity. I love this idea and knew immediately that it must go to Maddie's Mark.

Glennpeter has a wonderful way of highlighting the charities that receive help. They send you home with a kit to decorate a ceramic tile, you bring it back to them and they fire it and display it prominently in their store.

My daughter and I decided to take Maddie's logo of a butterfly and place it on a pretty flower. We felt so much pressure to do a good job on behalf of our charity. We second guessed our color choices and worried that we made the light colors too dark and that the dark colors wouldn't be dark enough.

In the end we hope we did a nice job. We won't know what the finished product will look like until the night of the event. We hope you will be there with us to see our creation in honor of Maddie.
Our tile will be among some amazing charities that were supported by equally amazing people who wanted to make a difference in their community. Your support for this launch party is truly going to make a difference. I can't wait to see our tile on this wall. It will be such an honor. Podcast Launch Day!!!

I have been dreaming about this project for a long... long time! Much longer than I can admit right now... because I was scared. I was scared to put myself out there. Have you ever felt that there was something you really wanted to do? Something you really wanted to share and you just couldn't? You allowed the negative thoughts in your brain convince you it wasn't worth it? Well, I know I have but now I'm taking a leap of faith and I just know it's the right thing to do.

See- I believe that we all want to be successful. Our definitions of success may be different but at the core of it- we want to the be the best version of ourselves we can be. That's what this podcast is all about. I want to talk to successful people. Hear their successes, their struggles, their ability to overcome and tips they would share. Maybe we will all be inspired and learn something from them that will help us be more successful. We have some AMAZING people in New York State... and I want to bring their stories to life for you.

My first interview is with 7th degree Taekwondo black belt Master Mechelle Smith. One of the most respected women in USA Taekwondo, Master Mechelle is inspiring, smart, tough... and kind. You should see her with her students at her studio in Schenectady, New York! She is the total package and I am honored to have her as my first interviewee.

Master Mechelle Smith

Listen to her interview here:

You can also find her interview on Podbean right now or  iTunes, Stitcher, or Google Play hopefully by Friday (I made a technical error with synching). While you're there please subscribe and leave me a great review! YOU will make this podcast a SUCCESS!

Paula Pierro/Glennpeter Jewelers Diamond Centre
I also want you to meet Paula from Glennpeter Jewelers who is organizing an amazing podcast launch party for me! See all those tiles behind us on the Wall of Love? Those are all the charities Glennpeter Jewelers has helped over the years. They are not only hosting my podcast party but allowing me to donate all the proceeds from silent auction items and drinks to the wonderful charity Maddie's Mark Foundation.  I am forever grateful for their charity and support. With the money we raise at this event we will be able to give seriously ill children their "Best Day Ever".

Please get your tickets NOW- space is limited and we are planning a spectacular event. I'm so excited! I plan to tell you so much more in the weeks to come!
