I took myself out on a date! It’s not like I would have
planned this- after all I’m married and have a built in partner for any
date-like situation. How did I end up flying solo? As it turned out- the kids
social lives are starting to really ramp up and as a result- hubby and I split
up for the greater good. While my girls were at one birthday party, my husband
was at another with my son and I was at a movie buying time until I needed to
pick up the girls.
Here’s the thing- I was worried how I would feel all by my
lonesome. Turns out- you don’t have to share your popcorn if you’re by
yourself. It was an exciting development and I munched happily until I lost
steam about ¼ of the way in and decided to save the rest for the kids. Then
there was no one to ask for my candy. It was another exciting turn of events-
only problem- I could only eat a few. Ok, I’ll bring those for the kids too.
Oh no! Then there was the lady who thought it would be comfy
to take her shoes off and prop her feet up on the bar in front of her. Is that
feet I smell? I was pretty sure it was and figured I may not have noticed it if
I had someone chatting me up during the pre-movie commercials. Really- shoes
off? Come on.
Another bad turn of events happened when the movie previews
came on. You see- I H-A-T-E scary movies. I hate being scared. I just can’t
deal with it. I did not take into account that there would be scary previews-
and there was one. My partner was nowhere in sight for me to hide my face into
his shoulder. So, like a little kid, I covered my eyes and ears. Yes- I’m sure
the people next to me thought I was an idiot- I don’t care.
The movie finally started and I enjoyed it. The Host was a
very weird book- but it’s better suited for the big screen. I loved the romance
and thought they did a pretty good job with it.
Would I go solo again? Sure,
why not- it wasn’t that bad, but I do prefer having a date to chat up and
experience the movie with. Part of the experience for me is discussing it. How
‘bout you- have you ever taken yourself out on a date? What was it like? Were
there any people taking their shoes off and propping their feet up for you to
enjoy their scent? Weigh in.
