Shine A Light On Lung Cancer

This is Phyllis Goldstein. She's the Chairperson of NY State Chapter of the Lung Cancer Alliance... and a lung cancer survivor. She wasn't a smoker and still got lung cancer. Phyllis has turned her health crisis- and subsequent recovery into activism. She now speaks on behalf of the New York Lung Cancer Alliance. Her optimistic and engaging personality draws you in- and makes you take note that lung cancer can affect anyone.

Did you know:

*Only one in ten people who smoke get lung cancer.
*Lung cancer in women who have never smoked is the fastest growing cancer diagnosis.
*25-thousand women who have never smoked are diagnosed with lung cancer each year.
*Nearly 80% of those diagnosed with lung cancer are never smokers or former smokers who quit decades ago.
*Lung cancer is the leading cause of all cancer deaths.
*It will kill nearly twice as many women as breast cancer and three times as many men as prostate cancer this year.

These are all sobering statistics from the Lung Cancer Alliance that help Phyllis tell her story.

Tonight Phyllis and others affected by lung cancer invite the public to gather with them at the "Shine A Light On Lung Cancer Vigil". I have had the honor of being Emcee of this event and know Phyllis personally and she is just lovely- you should come out to the event to meet her and learn more about the support services available. The event is being held at Albany Medical Center Hilton Garden Inn at 6pm this evening. If you'd like more information about the event or the Lung Cancer Alliance please click HERE.

I interviewed Phyllis this morning on YNN. Please tune in to hear more.
