Many people do things when they are young that they regret when their older- and that's the case in the story of Cortland County District Attorney Mark Suben. When he was recently running for re-election he was confronted with the allegation that rumors are circulating that he was an adult film performer under a couple names including Gus Thomas. A YouTube video even popped up with the allegation- taking still shots of the videos of the actor Gus Thomas and then Suben- side by side alleging it was him. He denied it. He was re-elected. Now he has come clean.
In a news conference yesterday he admitted to being an actor in adult films nearly 40 years ago, in the early 1970s. He is quoted as saying "I was shocked and embarrassed to be confronted with this so many years later. I was embarrassed for my family and friends who have stood by me. I also denied my actions to my family, my friends and my staff."
This all happened before he was in the legal profession and he says even before he was a legal student. He was single. It was legal. His opponent in the November elections Keith Dayton told the Syracuse Post Standard it's not the acting he's worried about- it's the lying. Suben's spokeswoman says- he's not going to resign.
Do you think he should resign or do you think his past was his past and he should stay in his elected post? Leave a comment below.
