Do They Do Your Makeup?

Many news people get the question "Do they do your Makeup?" The answer......

....... nine out of ten times will be no. Most news people have to do their own makeup and hair and they buy their own wardrobe. That's why we may be a hit one day and a miss the other!

The article "Why Local News Anchors All Have the Same Look" addressed an interesting development in the behind the scenes preparation of news "consultants". Stations do spend money for consultants. We have not had a wardrobe consultant come to our station yet, but we within the last year did have a makeup consultant. She helped us to pick the colors that worked best for our skin tones and safely transition into the high definition era, but at the set with us daily, making sure we look good? UH.... NO.

I would guess that most stations don't have consultants as much as observant on air staff that WANTS to look good. Imitation is the best form of flattery- isn't it? That's probably the more realistic reason why many news anchors look alike. Unless we are talking about a big market, the image of the anchor getting touched up while going over his or her scripts is completely unrealistic. The truth is- news anchors are doing the best they can, within budgets, and without daily help.
