There is NO NEED to make up New York political headlines... they pretty much write themselves! Remember Congressman Anthony Weiner stepped down amid a sexting scandal in 2011? Well, many thought he pretty much imploded his career... until this year when he decided to reemerge and run for New York City Mayor. It appeared he was on track to make an amazing comeback because he had been leading recent polls. That was until yesterday--- when it came out that he was involved in another sex scandal under the fake name of "Carlos Danger"! This time he's admitted to sending pictures of his namesake to a 22 year old girl in August 2012... more than a year after his first scandal!
I admit I was completely floored when I heard of this recent revelation. I probably shouldn't be but COME ON- REALLY?!?!? REALLY. After putting himself, his wife and his family through such public embarrassment the first time- you would think he would have sought out some type of help to prevent it from happening again. This is clearly some type of illness that needed treatment. What kind of illness? I'm not a doctor- can't tell you- but wouldn't you agree...it's more than just having fun? After losing almost everything- he did it again.
Another interesting observation by many was that his wife not only stood by his side this time- she spoke out that she was in support of him and their relationship is on firm ground. Huma Abedin said:
"I love him, I have forgiven him, I believe in him and as we have said from the beginning, we are moving forward."
Weiner's mayoral opponents are calling on him to pull out of the race. He vows to continue on and says he's surprised more revelations haven't come out, but asks New York city voters to forgive him and continue supporting his bid for mayor. Can a compulsion of this type be compartmentalized into one area or will this behavior bleed over into his ability to run the city? It's a question New York voters will have to weigh when they head to the polls on September 10th for the Democratic primary.
