Close Encounter

While we here in the lower 48 were enjoying barbecuing, boating, maybe a hike in the woods... my parents were experiencing several close encounters with wildlife in Alaska. That's where my parents live. I lived there for 9 years. It's an amazingly beautiful state- I'm just not a winter girl... oh yeah, and I'm not to keen on wildlife.

Imagine how excited my parents were to see three baby moose in their fenced in yard. Mama was far away. They took the opportunity to go and get some good pictures and video of them.



Seconds after the camera was turned off my parents saw mama coming around the corner so they beat feet inside. My mom said "We just went in the house and she laid down to feed her babies. We set up the camera and as I turn to go outside on porch in a flash there he was charging the moose!"

He--- was a GRIZZLY BEAR!!

 My mom continued: "I had to run get dogs in. Mark (my dad) manned the cameras. All hell broke loose! Moose flying in all directions! The bear grabbed a baby and ate it!" 



My parents were safely up on a deck and never in any danger of getting attacked by the bear-- or at least they would have enough time to get inside if the bear decided to climb up a pillar.

What happens next is they keep an eye on him until Fish and Game can come out and try to capture him. As you will see- my parents aren't too happy about his frolicking in their Koi pond!

Kinda funny how my dad questions at the very end if they can climb-- considering my mom yelling at him to get in the house more than just a few times! Ha!

In the end Fish and Game didn't catch him. The neighborhood is on high alert and my dad went out and bought bear spray. He discovered the hard way (by trying to test spray it)... that really works.
