Day After Elections Means Early Wakeup Call

When you anchor the morning shift- that automatically means an early wake up call for the day after Election Day! Well, early or late- depending on the way you look at it! The alarm was set for MIDNIGHT! I immediately woke up to find that Mitt Romney was not yet ready to admit defeat and CNN was on in the background- distracting me from getting ready for work. I couldn't help but tweet an update in between guzzling down a big cup of coffee and packing up and getting out the door.

When I got to the station I was welcomed by the largest crowd of the year. There were at least 20 or 30 of my hard working coworkers still there. The morning crew is small but mighty- so it's important to note this was a newsroom full of night-siders- still working on election results and in fact our political crew was still live on air! They all had a long day and worked hard to tell all the major story lines of election day.

Morning crew people aren't used to all the bright lights, conversation and action so the few of us that were there were quietly going about our business- gathering energy for the day ahead. We need to ease into the day- haha!  President Obama took to the stage and tv- as I took to the makeup room to get ready for my shift. I composed a tweet here and there in between eating my eggs and bacon (courtesy of my hubby) and putting on the "face". Then I was ready for action.

I was on set by 2am with our Weekend Anchor Solomon Syed and we were reporting the results. The morning after election night is a lot of wrapping up the coverage. So, today we will be focusing on looking at those races and how they (and issues) change the local and national political landscape.
